This course spends 4 days on the shorebased course one week, followed by the 5 day practical the next week. This course is intensive and requires concentration and commitment to learning as there will also be a small amount of homework set each evening.
As an introduction to basic navigation, pilotage, meteorology and seamanship, Day Skipper Theory prepares you as a skipper to navigate familiar waters by day while also introducing you to basic night navigation. It is the starting point for most skippers as they start to learn how to make decisions on board and develop their knowledge and skills.
During the practical course elements you will build on previous experience under supervision from one of our experienced RYA Instructors. You will be directing the crew, coming alongside, handling the boat under sail and power, navigating during the day and getting some night hours under your belt. You will also learn basic engine checks and be expected to take control in a man overboard emergency situation.
Price includes tea, coffee, course material and charts for the theory portion of the course, and accomodation onboard our yacht, meals for the duration of the course, fuel and mooring fees, and the provision of fresh linen and towels for the practical course.
