This is a two day combined course and assessment, revising candidates existing knowledge, providing advice for teaching radio courses and assessing knowledge and ability to deliver an RYA SRC course. Candidates will be expected to be familiar with the operation of Class D radios and radio equipment typically carried in GMDSS area A1.

Due to the short time available on this course, there is limited opportuity to develop a candidate's teaching technique or to fill any gaps in knowledge. As such, this instructors course is a blend of assessing the candidate's knoweldge, instructing ability and ensuring the structure and standard required of the course is understood. Candidates must therefore ensure they have sufficient underpinning knowledge prior to attending this course/assessment.

  1. Must hold the RYA Short Range Certificate or higher GMDSS marine radio operator's certificate.
  2. Already be an RYA practical instructor in one of the following disciplines: Cruising, Powerboat, Dinghy or Windsurfing. Other specialist groups eg Diving Schools and HM Forces, may also be considered.
  3. Have attended or observed an RYA SRC course within the last two years.
