Countdown to Reservations End Date
The VHF course takes place over one day in our Brixham classroom. We have fully working marine radios to practice with, in order to familiarise yourself with radio procedures and equipment. The Short Range Certificate is the minimum qualification required by law to control the operation of VHF and VHF Digital Selective Calling (DSC) equipment on any British flagged vessel voluntarily fitted with a radio. This includes both fixed and hand held equipment using International channels.
A radio is an important piece of safety equipment on board and it is vital to understand the correct procedures. Unnecessary transmissions could block out a Mayday distress call.

The course will be taught and examined using radio simulators. The exam will also include a short written test.
There are course notes provided for this course, there is a requirement for 3 hours pre-study, we recommend you focus on the Phonetic Alphabet and the voice Mayday Procedure. Course content will include, Short Range Certificate (SRC) requirements, Licence requirements, Operating procedure, Mayday, Pan Pan, Safety, Routine Digital Selective Calling (DSC).
Includes tea/coffee & light refreshments. A £60 licence and exam fee is payable to the RYA on top of the course price.
